The list which follows are some books which I read daily to lift my spirits. Some are religious in nature, but do not dismiss them for it, for they hold the essence of the message of Truth, and so are valuable to anyone who seeks it.

Emmet Fox – Power Through Constructive Thinking (click to buy)

Emmet Fox (1886-1951), was a spiritual New Thought teacher. More a collection of essays originally published in pamphlet form (much like an early form of blogging), Emmet Fox’s Power Through Constructive Thinking is one of my favourite go-to’s for uplifting words.

Fox really knows his stuff, takes many writings from bible and explains to us what they really mean. He explains in this book Prayer, God, Faith, Love and how to overcome any difficulty we are faced with. His faith and understanding of how life works is evident. He doesn’t explain the intricacies of law of attraction, but it’s clear he knows how it works, and rather than being abstract, he gives us real ways that we can overcome any obstacle that we are faced with.

There is also information on life after death, and reincarnation, two big subjects which are frequently ignored. As spiritual writings go, if you haven’t encountered Emmet Fox, I would encourage you to seek out his writings and get some of them on your bookshelf (or your kindle) for easy access on a daily basis.

Best for – those raised a Christian, with some knowledge of the bible, and no adverse feelings toward the church or ‘God’

Jerry and Esther Hicks – Getting into the Vortex Guided Meditations (click to buy)

Nobody that I can think of has given over more of their lives to promote the message of Law of Attraction than Jerry and Esther Hicks. From about the late eighties onwards, they have been touring the world and taking cruises delivering inspired talks to audiences on the subjects and questions they have about life, metaphysics, and how to be happy.

This guided meditation CD stands out among their works as something which can be used at the beginning of every day to lift the spirits and set the tone for the rest of the day.

It is calming, soothing and centering, and encourages the listener to breathe deeply and slowly whilst listening gently to the words on the recording. It will make you feel lighter, lift your spirits. If you have trouble focussing on ‘nothing’ during meditation, a guided meditation such as this is definitely worth a look.

Best for – those raised a Christian who didn’t take to it very well, or those from other faiths with an interest in metaphysics. This is an inclusive teaching which speaks of God in less resistant, non-religious terminology.

Jerry and Esther Hicks – Ask and it is Given (click to buy)

Another book by Jerry and Esther Hicks (I have many), this one is nothing short of a modern day bible. It explains our relationship to life, and how to get what we want. If you bought no other book but this one, and did what it said, you would achieve your heart’s desire.

Beautifully written, full of spiritual wisdom, and a must for every spiritual teacher’s bookshelf. Ask and it is given explains the law of attraction, the soul and its function, the emotions what they mean and how to raise them, and how thinking (and vibrating) attracts life to you. Brilliant. Buy a few copies and give them to your friends. Condensed modern wisdom.

Best for – those raised a Christian who didn’t take to it very well, or those from other faiths with an interest in metaphysics. This is an inclusive teaching which speaks of God in less resistant, non-religious terminology.

Neale Donald Walsch – Conversations with God (click to buy)

The Conversations with God Trilogy are fantastic. Delivered into the ear of Neale Donald Walsh, ‘God’ answers Neale’s questions about all sorts of things. All three books are great, and if you enjoy the depth of channeled information you will love these books. Highly recommended, and should be part of every bookshelf.

Best for – those with a Christian upbringing, aware of the church, the bible and Christian morality and ethics, but widely accessible to all.

Sanaa Roman and Duane Packer – Creating Money: Attracting Abundance (click to buy)

Another channeled book, this time by Sanaya Roman and Duane Packer. This book contains some wonderful descriptions, affirmations and exercises to help the reader to get into the mindset to manifest whatever they choose in life, but principally it is focussed upon physical things, and money. The thinking is unlimited, loving, and uplifting, and if you are having difficulties with money or you struggle with your attitude to abundance, this work can uplift your vibration to financial abundance, and change your thinking for the better.

Best for – New age spiritual types. If you have been raised in an alternative faith, this book may appeal to you. Have a look at to see whether the material resonates. Much as Jerry and Esther’s Abraham teachings, Sanaya and Duane are the translators of the message, so religious dogma is absent.
